10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for many of us. But it is important. As the winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The exterior of your home could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Aurora, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save you a lot of money in years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris pile up in the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.
Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you too much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows can be a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and it will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem counter-productive because you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use throughout the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it in the winter since you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in pretty bad condition the first time you go onto it in spring.
Detergent and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Aurora. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof too, but you’ll need to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it be. This solution will kill any organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is likely what most people passing by see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will probably motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and think about painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean overlooked areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will be spending much more time outside, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor chores.
Yard tools and pool care equipment must all have an assigned area outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes make a big impact on the overall look of your home.
Remove weeds around your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
You can probably complete all of these jobs after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Aurora Pressure Washing provides professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
